Contrary to popular belief, a beach babe doesn’t just need “vitamin sea” alone. A responsible and expert-level mermaid must be prepared and equipped with her beach essentials. Whether you’re a newbie or a veteran, these are the must-haves you can’t go on a beach trip without.
1. Tote bag
Preferably a woven or basket-style beach bag – one that’s water-proof and spacious enough to fit all your other necessities. It’s easier and more convenient to carry around the beach than say a backpack or duffel bag.
2. Sand proof towel
Sand-repellent towels are super handy if you don’t want grit everywhere. But more importantly, coastal erosion is becoming an environmental concern, so opt to use sand-proof towels or beach mats to avoid taking home sand when you go.
3. Sunscreen
This should be self-explanatory, really. You don’t even need to go to the seaside to invest in sunscreen because you need sun protection wherever you go. Choose a sunblock brand with a broad spectrum and opt for those with both UVA and UVB protection. Don’t forget to re-apply every 2 hours or when you come out of the water!
4. Tanning oil
Get your glow on with tanning oils! But because SPF is life, we strongly recommend you to get a tanning oil with SPF if you really want to get bronzed. Remember though not to stay under the sun for too long! Sunburn is not a good look.
5. Beach hat
You need to protect that precious little head of yours, too. The scalp is also part of your skin so don’t forget to bring a beach hat; preferably a big one that provides sufficient shade for your entire face.
6. Cover up
We like to believe that stylish beach cover-ups are an extension of your bikini. If you’re done getting a suntan, you don’t need to put your shorts and shirt back on. Simply slip into a cute sheer cover-up as you walk along the shoreline or pose for an Instagram pic.
7. Book
One thing you can do while getting a suntan is read a book. Waiting for that bronzy glow can be quite boring so drop your phone for a sec and appreciate a good book as you soak up the rays.
8. Bluetooth speakers
The beach without music is like a sandwich without condiments so bring along some good quality portable speakers to set the summer mood. Curate your summer playlist because beach music is just as important as sunscreen.
9. Post-sun hair spray
Your hair can get really dry when exposed to the sun for a long period of time. Just like your skin, your hair needs extra TLC when you’re at the beach. Spray on some post-sun hair products to restore and repair the damage the UV rays have done to your locks.
10. Beeswax balm
The summer heat can seriously damage our lips too if not taken care of. Beeswax balm will heal and soothe chapped and dry lips. Keep it with you at all times, especially during the summer.
