We all have those nights where we’re too “woke” and struggle catching some Z’s from thinking and pondering about life but there’s an incredibly easy way that can help you get a good night’s rest in under 1 minute. Dr. Andrew Weil, a doctor trained in Harvard, developed a breathing exercise called “4-7-8 Breath”, also known as “The Relaxing Breath”.
Here’s how you do it:
Step 1. Place the tip of your tongue behind your upper front teeth and make sure it stays there throughout the entire cycle.

Step 2. Exhale through your mouth, making a whoosh sound.

Step 3. With your mouth closed, inhale through your nose and mentally count to 4

Step 4. Next, hold your breath for 7 seconds

Step 5. Lastly, exhale through your mouth, making another whoosh sound for 8 seconds

Do all of these steps in one breath and repeat it three more times until you finish a total of 4 breaths.
Breathing can affect thought processes and moods, and can instantly put you in a relaxed state. It’s the perfect way to combat stress and anxiety especially when you’re trying to sleep. Have you tried this technique before? Let us know how it worked for you!
