Late to the Party? Here are 10 Things You Need to Know If You’re a Brazilian First-Timer

By  - 8 years ago

Bare, trimmed, or au naturel, we all have our own preferences when it comes to maintaing hair down there. For some ladies, a Brazilian is the way to go: not only does it save you from the hassle of shaving every other day, but it helps you feel clean and confident.

If you plan to enter the world of Brazilian waxing soon, here are ten things you need to know.

10. Take a Shower Before Your Session

This should be obvious. Doing so will decrease your chances of getting infected post-wax. Knowing that you smell fresh and clean, you will avoid feeling self-conscious too.

9. Let it Grow

Put your razor down and let your hair grow for about 1/4 of an inch before getting a wax.

8. Pop an Advil

There’s no sugarcoating this: Brazilian waxing can be painful, especially for first-timers. Taking painkillers 45 minutes prior to the session is an effective way to minimize the ouch factor.

7. Bring Out Your Sweats

Or your skirts. Whatever. Just wear loose clothing to avoid skin irritation.

6. Brazilian vs Bikini Wax

A bikini wax is all about removing hair that would be visible if you were wearing a bikini bottom; a Brazilian wax, on the other hand, is about going all the way (yes, that includes the labia and the butt crack), although you can opt to have a strip of hair left, too.

5. Be Ready to Get Intimate

Your therapist will touch you in places you’ve never been touched and will also ask you to move into very awkward positions. Emotionally prepare yourself.

4. Red Days

For the love of all things good, do not have your Brazilian done during your period. The best time to get your wax is a week after your menstrual cycle, when your threshold for pain is at its highest.

3. Nothing Hot For At Least 24 Hours

Hot showers, sex, workouts, beach trips—avoid all of these for at least 48 hours to avoid getting infection.

2. It Will Look Bumpy

After your waxing session, your skin will look red, irritated, and bumpy. No need to worry though, because the redness should be gone by the next day.

1. The More You Do it, The Less it Hurts

The best part of waxing is that the more often you have it done, the less it would hurt. The best part? Having your wax regularly can make your hair grow less coarse.
