Here’s Why Maine Mendoza Deserves This Historic MAC Collab

By  - 6 years ago

Most celebrities when asked for photos will strike their best pose and go on their merry way, but not Maine Mendoza. “Jologs or sosyal?” she’d say, fully aware that these signature Maine antics are what make her relatable AF.

In the wake of her buzzworthy collab with global cosmetics brand MAC, we’re taking a trip down memory lane for this overnight sensation’s meteoric rise to superstardom.

Queen of Dubsmash

When the musical app Dubsmash was a thing years back, Maine garnered attention for her hilarious, no-holds-barred videos. Because of her wacky personality, her videos instantly became viral and earned her the unofficial title, “Queen of Dubsmash”

Yaya Dub

It’s because of that virality and infectious comedy that she got her first TV stint. And so the Yaya Dub character was born. She ended up being paired with cutie actor and host Alden Richards after a seemingly innocent pabebe wave that made the nation all sorts of kilig. Variations of the hashtag #AlDub trended on Twitter daily, even garnering millions upon millions of tweets each time.

#AlDub phenomenon

The pairing’s fandom and influence was so phenomenal that the hashtag #AlDubTamangPanahon was recognized by the Guiness Book of Records as the most used hashtag in 24 hours. That’s 40,706,392 tweets in one day!

The nation’s sweetheart

She scored movie and TV roles, whilst landing magazine covers in such a short time. She had 30 endorsements under her belt in 2016 alone, making her a top endorser for that year. By July 2017, she’s dethroned Kris Aquino as the celeb with the most endorsements.

First Pinay to collab with MAC Cosmetics

The girl’s not done breaking records. Only 3 years after her initial breakthrough, Maine is now part of MAC Cosmetics’ roster of celebrity collaborators. This makes her the first Filipina to be in the likes of international icons like Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and Marilyn Monroe.

Even outside her love team, Maine is achieving things on her own and is a force to be reckoned with in this industry.
