John Mayer just tweeted about his latest discovery—a “male-appropriate” heart emoji, if there is such a thing.
Get it? ‘Cause it’s the heart symbol used in card suits, which “real men” use to play poker whilst drinking whiskey.
Just discovered a more male-appropriate heart emoji. ♥️. From the card suits. Not so ❤. ?

Obviously, people didn’t really get if he was being serious or sarcastic.
@JohnMayer emojis don’t have genders john

We mean it. There was a huge fuss about it on Twitter.
@JohnMayer masculinity so fragile it’s threatened by an emoji #ohhoneyyyyitsjustanemojiiii

@mirrat13 @JohnMayer ok but it’s actually a joke… he made a seemingly sexist remark about ❤️ being too feminine, but then used ?at the end

@ayejams @mirrat13 @JohnMayer so sad that you have to explain it tho

@iRobbit @mirrat13 @JohnMayer I know lol. Sarcasm is really hard to convey over the internet, John shouldn’t even bother trying to attempt tweeting stuff like this
— AJMS (@ayejams) April 7, 2017
Hmmm?
@jackelynv2 @JohnMayer It’s actually tongue in cheek, cause he used the ?emoji right after in order to imply that he’s being silly in his viewpoint

@JohnMayer Being a straight man sounds exhausting.

It’s still not clear to us if he was kidding or not. But maybe he really was, who knows? We *heart* his music anyway.
To those who were rankled by my heart emoji tweet: I still ♥️you. I just don’t, you know…❤you.
