A Local Brand Brought Back A Vintage Piece Filipinas Really Loved

By  - 6 years ago

Way before mules and slides were trends, a similar style was already walking the Philippine streets. The bakya is traditional footwear made of a wooden base and cloth strap pinned to the platform. It is adorned with carvings, by hand-painted art or hand-woven fabrics. What was a common choice of footwear then eventually became an iconic piece of local fashion and national identity.

To pay tribute to Filipino roots and encourage others to do the same, local shoe brand Annie & Lori created Nicola. They took features of the traditional shoe and married it with the brand’s signature design and quality. The pair looks timeless, versatile, and minimalist, fit for the modern Filipina.

Nicola is an open toe sandal with a square front. It features a round wooden heel which has just the right amount of height for that extra lift but not too high to feel uncomfortable. Its sole is also extra cushioned so you don’t have to worry about using it all day.

The strap on top is made of pure leather that comes in tawny and red rust and has sexy cut-outs on the side for a modern touch. You can easily pair it with casual or formal looks.

You can purchase a pair and shop for more styles on their Instagram page and website.
